POLITICAL EXPERT JOE MONAHAN SAYS WIENER IS MOST WELL- KNOWN OF
THE 3 CANDIDATES VYING FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER IN DISTRICT 4
www.joemonahan.com
"What happened to biz guy Chuck Gara? A bunch of R's told us
he was going to run for the county commission seat being vacated
by Tim Cummins. But he was a no-show Tuesday. That makes former
State Senator Michael Wiener the best known name among the three
R's hoping to replace Cummins. The other two are attorney Ned Fuller
and Ivonne Nelson. No Dems filed."

FORMER SENATOR WIENER ANNOUNCES HIS BID FOR COUNTY COMMISSION
Former New Mexico State Senator Michael C. Wiener has today
announced, that he
will seek the Republican nomination for Bernalillo County Commission
- District 4 in the June 3rd Primary election.
Wiener, 53, lost the same race eight years ago by only 113 votes
to Tim Cummins (the closest contest in Bernalillo County in 2000);
Cummins is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.
A former City Councilor ('85 - '89), Wiener vows, if elected, to
fight property tax increases and believes in strong law enforcement
with efficient and swift judicial determination. "The Judicial
system must be a vital part of the long-term solution, by analyzing
its own contributions to the problem of jail overcrowding that we
face, and the wisdom of incarcerating offenders for many nonviolent
offenses."
"We are currently spending $72 million a year running the Bernalillo
County Metropolitan Detention Center and almost $400 million in
all areas of Public Safety, including Court Administration and Incarceration.
For what the taxpayers are spending, the rate of convictions is
far too low while recidivism is soaring." "Working together
we can achieve greater efficiencies and every inmate at MDC should
be evaluated for a work or industries program while they are incarcerated,"
Wiener added.
He has been studying the operation and budget of the Metropolitan
Detention Center and looking at the operation of other jails in
Southwestern Cities. Last week, Wiener spent the day with Sheriff
Joe Arpaio in Phoenix and returned to Albuquerque with a number
of ideas that he hopes to "put on the table."
After a 25 year career as a Real Estate Broker, Wiener co-founded
a retail business in the Northeast Heights which he sold after five
years. He now writes and designs guides and publications for law
enforcement. Wiener earned his BA from the University of New Mexico
in 1976 and has been a 35 year resident of Albuquerque.
